REC?
Ref 15 SEP 10
Government House,
Hongkong, 15th. August, 1910.
I have the honour to inform Your
Lordship that the Japanese Community recently asked per-
-mission to erect a Chapel and crematorium in that por-
-tion of the Cemetery referred to in Sir F. D. Lugard's
For
949/69.10
Despatch No. 343 of the 17th. of November last, which was
set apart for Non-Christian burials.
It appeared undesirable to
sacrifice the considerable area required, to the erection
of permanent buildings within the Cemetery, the area for
extension of which is limited, or to establish the pre-
-cedent of allowing one Sect to erect such buildings in a
Public Cemetery. An offer was, therefore, made to grant
a separate site for the Chapel and crematorium in the
neighbouring Sookumpoo Valley.
This site the Japanese
Consul, on behalf of the Japanese Community, accepted on
certain conditions set out in a letter copy of which is
enclosed.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE EARL OF CREWE,
